How to Become a Substitute Teacher

• Step 1: Apply for Employment
  • Complete the online employment application through the TCPS Career Portal.
• Step 2: Notify Human Resources
  • After submitting your application, email your interest to:

If you are a certified teacher, please attach a copy of your current or expired teaching certificate to your email.

• Step 3: Meet the Minimum Requirements
  • Applicants must:
    • Possess a high school diploma or GED.
    • Consent to a criminal background check.
    • Meet the substitute training requirements listed below.
       
• Step 4: Complete the Required Substitute Training

Unless exempt, applicants must successfully complete the STEDI SubSkills Training Course with a minimum composite score of 85%. The current course fee is $49.95.

After completing the course, upload your STEDI Sub Diploma to your employment application and email a copy to Stephanie Collins at scollins@twiggs.k12.ga.us.

Training Exemptions

You are not required to complete the STEDI course if you have:

• A valid or expired teaching certificate, or
• A current Georgia Paraprofessional Certificate.

If you qualify for an exemption, upload a copy of your certificate to your application.

STEDI Registration

To register for the required training:

1. Visit www.stedi.org.
2. Select Shop at the top of the page.
3. Choose Basic Option A or Basic Option B.
4. Complete your purchase and training.
5. Earn a minimum composite score of 85% to receive your Sub Diploma.

• Step 5: Orientation and Onboarding

Applications will be reviewed by Human Resources. Qualified applicants selected for employment will be invited to attend a substitute orientation and onboarding session before being placed on the substitute roster.
