College Planning

The University System of Georgia (USG) is the organizational body that includes 35 public institutions of higher learning in Georgia. The System is governed by the Georgia Board of Regents. It sets goals and dictates general policy to educational institutions as well as administering Public Library Service of the state which includes 58 public library systems. The USG also dispenses public funds (allocated by the state's legislature) to the institutions but not the lottery-funded HOPE Scholarship.

Currently, the two-year colleges of the University System of Georgia do NOT require ACT or SAT scores for admission. If you choose to take the ACT or SAT and meet certain scores, you may exempt certain placement testing requirements. Minimum academic GPA required for those students earning a College Preparatory diploma is 2.0. Minimum academic GPA required for those students earning a Technical/Career Preparatory diploma is 2.2. Students with a Tech Prep diploma will be required to make up course deficiencies that kept them from earning a College Prep diploma.

High School: The Alliance for Excellent Education has identified ten key elements that every high school should have in place to ensure that all of its students are successful. The list includes challenging classes, a safe learning environment, strong leaders, necessary resources, skilled teachers, user-friendly information, challenging classes, personal attention for all students, extra help for those who need it, bringing the real world to the classroom, and family and community involvement
