[05/22/23] Jeffersonville, GA — In partnership with Dr. Ivan Allen, President of Central GA Technical College, Dr. Mack Bullard has introduced the CGTC Summer Study Abroad Program to Twiggs County Schools. Through this program, three (3) Twiggs County High School students who are CGTC dual enrollment students have the opportunity to travel to Ireland in Summer 2023 to participate in a unique Dual Enrollment Study Abroad Program from June 18 – 28, 2023.
This global educational opportunity opens up the world for students in the Middle GA service area who may otherwise never have the opportunity to travel abroad. Other counties who have had students participating in this program are: Houston, Bibb, and Pulaski Counties.
Dr. Mack Bullard, Superintendent of Twiggs County Public Schools shares "We are so excited that three of our students will be participating in the Central GA Technical College Study Abroad Program In Ireland. Our students will earn college credit through this dual enrollment program. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for our students to fly to Ireland with college professors and other high school students from middle GA. They will learn about Ireland's history, be immersed in the culture, and actually walk through the castles, museums, and ocean side landscapes of Ireland. Traveling builds self confidence and helps us understand others better. We are citizens of a global community. I thank Central GA Technical College for making this opportunity possible for our students."
The three (3) TCHS students who were dual enrolled in Central Ga Technical College and meet the qualifications for the CGTC Study Abroad in Ireland Program are:
- Makayla Mitchell - Senior graduating in May 2023 (Valedictorian of Graduating Class)
- Mariah Shine - Senior graduating in May 2023 (Ranked 2nd in Graduating Class)
- Zyon Height - Senior graduating in May 2023 (Ranked 6th in Graduating Class)
Students earn 3 credit hours for HUMN 1101, Introduction to Humanities. The course runs through summer term. Together with Study Abroad Ireland, students will travel to County Donegal, where they will be immersed in the vast cultural history of Ireland and participate in guided tours through museums, castles, and more. The students will also take tours of unique, historical parts of Ireland around the country and ocean side landscapes, where they will learn to surf, ride horses, and discover caves.
Twiggs County Public Schools grateful to the CGTC Foundation, local donors and the partners in Ireland for providing 3 Full Scholarships for our 3 Twiggs County students to participate in the study abroad program in Ireland June 18 - 28! Twiggs County Public Schools, Dr. Mack Bullard and the Twiggs County Board of Education are thankful for the overwhelming support.
