Shirley Stokes began her first term on the Board of Education in 2004. She believes students who are involved in their studies and apply themselves will see higher returns on their investments. "I joined the Board of Education, because I wanted to be a positive role model and make a difference in the lives of children and young adults. I wanted to make things better for our children," she said. A First Responder with Twiggs County Fire and Rescue, her responsibilities include helping injury victims and assisting persons through house calls.· Stokes has three grandchildren who each attend Twiggs County Public Schools.
